beauty shelf

August 18, 2013

My skincare routine has been stuck in a rut for the past year, so I've given my bathroom shelf an overhaul recently and replaced all my old products with some new discoveries. I did a fair bit of research and thought I'd share my favourite finds here.

Left to right:
1. Avène Cold Cream Lip Balm
This is quite pricey for a drugstore product but I like the creamy texture and the pearly sheen it leaves. Has moderate staying power, I find it needs reapplying every couple of hours.
2. Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant
A classic that I've only just gotten on board with. It's quite sticky so I use this sparingly just for rough patches. It works well but I might switch it for the cream version when I finish the tube.
3. Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief
I love the lightweight feel of this gel-crème formula. It absorbs very quickly and is completely fragrance free, which is important for me as I have sensitive skin. I think it's ideal for summer but I'm currently finding that it's not quite moisturising enough for winter, hence I need the following.
4. Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil
I use a few drops of this at night as a facial treatment. A little bit goes a long way and my skin feels really soft in the morning. It's also great for fading scars.
5. Kiehls Creamy Avocado Eye Treatment
At first, I found the consistency of this eye cream really strange. It's like a thick green melt and sits on the skin for a while, which I didn't like initially. But it was expensive enough for me to persist with, and after a couple of weeks I got used to the feeling and found it an addictive product. It's really effective at plumping up the eye area, with a slight dewy glow, and leaves a refreshing feeling.
6. L'Occitane en Provence Pivoine Flora Eau de Toilette Roll-on
The floral scent is divine, smells just like a bouquet of roses. Very subtle finishing touch for the wrists.
Do you use any of these products? Or, maybe your own favourite suggestions to add to the list?

I'm really familiar with Clinique products because my mum loves them. But I'd highly recommend this: http://www.sephora.com/camu-camu-power-c-x-30-trade-vitamin-c-brightening-moisturizer-P375619?skuId=1460906 It's pricey but totally worth it. I'd also found Clinique to be not-quite enough for moisture, especially as I have pretty dry skin (the sort that rarely get pimples, etc), and the tiniest dollop (like the size of less than a fingernail) moisturises my whole face at night, to the extent that I wake up still feeling moisturised :). Let me know if you ever end up trying it. It also smells amazing!
